Railways play a vital role in public transportation, serving millions of passengers daily. However, this also leads to the accumulation of significant amounts of waste on platforms, in trains, and across railway stations. Improper waste disposal not only causes environmental pollution but also poses health hazards and affects the overall cleanliness and image of railway services.

To address these challenges, the implementation of a Smart Waste Management System in railways is essential. This system leverages IoT (Internet of Things) technologies to monitor, manage, and optimize waste collection and disposal processes. Sensors installed in dustbins and waste collection areas detect the fill level of bins, categorize waste (e.g., wet, dry, plastic), and communicate real-time data to a centralized platform. Alerts are sent to maintenance staff when bins are full or if there is an abnormal condition such as overflow or fire.

By integrating components like ultrasonic sensors, gas sensors, load cells, ESP32 microcontroller, and cloud-based platforms (e.g., Blynk or ThingSpeak), the system ensures timely waste removal, reduces manual monitoring, and promotes efficient resource allocation.

This smart approach enhances cleanliness, improves passenger experience, and supports environmental sustainability, aligning with the objectives of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Digital India initiatives.
