Wireless Power Transfer for Electric Vehicle Charging

The Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) system eliminates the need for physical connectors or plugs in electric vehicle (EV) charging. This project uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to transfer energy from a transmitter coil to a receiver coil without direct contact. This contactless technology enhances user convenience and safety while reducing mechanical wear. The system consists of a high-frequency inverter, resonating transmitter and receiver coils, and a rectifier to charge an EV battery. This project demonstrates a prototype suitable for small-scale EV models or scaled-down demos.

The growing demand for sustainable and efficient transportation has accelerated the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) worldwide. However, one of the key challenges faced by EV users is the inconvenience of plug-in charging systems. To address this, Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology offers a promising alternative by enabling contactless energy transfer from the power grid to electric vehicles.

WPT systems use electromagnetic fields—typically through inductive or resonant coupling—to transmit power without physical connectors. This eliminates the need for cables and plugs, making the charging process safer, more convenient, and suitable for both stationary and dynamic charging scenarios. The integration of WPT in EV infrastructure has the potential to revolutionize the way vehicles are charged, contributing significantly to the development of smart and sustainable transportation systems.

This report explores the principles, design, and implementation of a wireless power transfer system specifically aimed at charging electric vehicles. It covers the working mechanism, hardware components, efficiency considerations, and future scope of WPT in real-world EV applications.
